In Manuel Antonio, the jungle creeps right up to the unspoiled beach which sometimes brings white-faced monkeys looking for a picnic snack.

Surprisingly very metropolitan, San Jose offers an exciting night life (vida nocturna) and cultural attractions such as the architecturally beautiful National Theater (Teatro Nacional) and historic National Museum (Museo Nacional).

Once out of San Jose, the quaint little pueblos of Costa Rica will draw you closer to the traditional lifestyle of Costa Rica and its colonial roots.

Costa Rica’s abundant biodiversity is one of the best treasures to experience. In the watery canals of Tortuguero, this Green Kingfisher (Martin Pescador Verde) lives among the low-hanging palms and marshlands.

Costa Ricans, or ticos as they diminutively refer to themselves, have a reputation of surprising hospitality, warmness and kindness that visitors always notice.

The Pacuare River is one of the top ten commercially run rivers in the world; no wonder with its spectacular scenery and equally attention-grabbing rapids.

The waves and sunsets on the beaches of Costa Rica make for an addictive combination.

With three major mountain ranges in a country not quite the size of West Virginia, you can spend the morning at the beach and watch the sunset from the mountains in the evening.

The street vendors sell fruits that are new and different.

Only 10 degrees north of the Equator, Costa Rica’s humid climate grows some very strange fruits and vegetables.

The fiestas in the small towns are a cultural experience not to be missed.

La Basilica de la Virgen de Los Angelos (The Basilica of the Virgen of the Angels) in the town of Cartago is one of the most beautiful and spiritually revered sites in all of the country.

The sunsets on the Pacific coast are always a sight to see.

In most of the country’s attractions, the natural beauty reminds you you’re in traveling in the rainforest. The hot springs heated by the fiery Arenal Volcano are a nice treat to help relax after an adventurous day in the jungle.

In the distance, the Arenal Volcano is still very active and gives nightly shows to visiting travelers.
